FOMENTEK™, makers of the “World’s Largest Hot/Cold Water Bottle and Ice Pack”, has been in operation since 1986. The name FOMENTEK™ is derived from a combination of two words: Fomentation-the use of heat to promote healing or relieve pain (a heating pad is a fomentation device), and Technology-the scientific method and material used to achieve an objective.

In 1986 Angie Brassette, the owner of FOMENTEK™, was suffering from the pain of fibromyalgia. After trying in vain to derive pain relief through the use of a heating pad, Angie tried a conventional hot water bottle. The hot water bottle was decidedly more comforting, but did not stay hot for very long and did not cover her entire back area. Angie wondered why someone had not made a hot water bottle that was large enough to provide soothing heat to her neck, shoulders, and back and would also be comfortable to lie on. Thence the FOMENTEK BAG™ was born.

After experiencing the relief of pain from fibromyalgia and the ease of getting to sleep when using her FOMENTEK BAG™, Angie and her husband, Duane, sat down and decided to provide this wonderful product to others who suffered from fibromyalgia. Soon after, Angie formed the company, FOMENTEK™, and began selling FOMENTEK™ Bags to massage therapists, physical therapists, pain management clinics, health spas, and chiropractors.

Two smaller sizes were added to the line, making this product the standard for heat therapy in thousands of massage therapy clinics and spas. Whereas the company originally provided hot water bottles to massage therapists, it wasn’t long before therapists were asking to buy FOMENTEK™ Bags to re-sell to their clients who wanted them for home use. “Most of our customers are wholesale buyers now,” says Angie. The massage therapists that use FOMENTEK™ Bags keep them on hand for clients. It enables the therapist to extend pain relief into the home. Also, the therapist can earn additional income.

In 1997 FOMENTEK™ began utilizing handicapped workers through the ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens) for labeling, folding, and packaging. This relationship with the ARC has proven to be rewarding for everyone involved.
